Sun and shadow

Laig monochrome
28/05/2016
Summer is really here in the Highlands - relentless sunshine and cloudless skies. But all is not lost. The conditions linked with very high humidity have created great black and white conditions. Some amazing cloud formations and harsh contrasty light are perfect for this sort of image and no where is better than Laig beach on Eigg. The fantatsic sand patterns caused by a combination of volcanic and sandstone sand, Atlantic swells stirring up the bay and small burns mixing the pallette every few minutes.
Another consequence of the high humidity and calm conditions also seen near Laig Bay is the explosion of damselflies on one of the local pools.
Large Red Damselfly

Six different species as well as dragonflies creates a rainbow of colours over the pool with literally thousands of insects hatching, feeding and mating. Yet another great wildlife show from this stunning area.
